Double skin-ventilated facades

Even though this idea has been around for long, and it cannot be considered a technology as such, the double facade has changed some of the numbers found on the energy savings bill of many buildings. Originally thought of by Le Corbusier, it achieves a 20-30% improved environmental control than an ordinary facade. With this "air seal", the life span of any project is significantly increased.

The choice of material has been improving since it was first introduced on the market. Any type of masonry in combination with a well-designed exterior-shell system can perform well now, given the correct circumstances.

The glass ventilated facade system is one that interests me, in particular. Both of the solid layers are glazed, and made into a curtain system that allows for proper ventilation control throughout the entire building.

This external system can also incorporate a shading system built in, according to the appropriate environmental conditions.

And the aesthetic element speaks for itself...
