A national, governmental organization that covers a number or disciplines, with a uniform purpose of telling the "English story", along historical lines. The strong sense of preservation that is inspired by their title is quite explanatory for their description.

All around England, many artefacts, specific locations, buildings or parts of buildings are protected by the overlooking seal of English heritage.

As far as planning law is concerned, many of the submitted planning permissions have to go through their hands, and their signature. Two such examples are the impressive renovation of the King Cross' Station in London, and the restoration of the Park Hill estate in Sheffield. In both situations, the architects had to consider and reconsider design solutions that would meet the requirements set out by English Heritage.

Whilst living as a designer in England, one might face the situation of dealing with historically protected land or property. It is therefore worth exploring into previous responses to the same problem, or to even begin to understand the concept behind national historic preservation and learn how to celebrate it.
