We have recently been introduced to a very good friend in time of need of a great looking, easy to make visual models.

Autodesk 3ds Max, formerly 3D Studio, then 3D Studio Max is a professional 3D computer graphics program for making 3D animations, models, games and images. It has modelling capabilities, a flexible plugin architecture and can be used on the Microsoft Windows platform.

All of us, 3D designers are bound to use this kind of software, either for developing video games, TV commercials, architectural models, and one of my favourites: movie effects and previsualization. By animating models, one can create all sorts of movements and reactions for their designs. A great example of such use is the first part of the Shrek movie, that was entirely build in 3DS Max.

To its modelling and animation tools, the latest version of 3ds Max also features shaders (such as ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering), dynamic simulation, particle systems, radiosity, normal map creation and rendering, global illumination, a customizable user interface, and its own scripting language.

All in all, in you are already accustomed with the user interface for any Autodesk programmes, you will not struggle to get accustomed with this one either. With some minor changes in keys, it runs on the same kind of command strategy.

All in all, it is a programme that I cannot wait to explore in further depth.
