The US Department of Energy began an initiative in 2002 that would include all the Universities around the world in a productive and innovative project. Open to the public, the Solar Decathlon is an award-winning competition which involved designing, building and operating a full-scale, entirely functional, 100 % solar-powered house.

It wasn't long before the success of the operation was known, and the Decathlon began to take shape in Europe as well, creating another separate competition for this part of the world as well, happening every two consecutive years.
The Decathlon is spread out over 10 contests, with a total of 1000 accumulated points, evaluated by a jury of experts in their related fields.

Showrooms, conference areas and entertainment spaces are present around the site, for a better understanding of the competing prototypes.
The last European Solar Decathlon took place in Versailles, France in 2014.

Cannot wait to see what 2016 will bring about!!
