A thriving public realm - Accordia12

For a housing development that sits so close to the town centre, Accordia has a lot of green spaces and places to offer the surrounding context. Social areas are created within the gardens of the houses or within the entire neighbourhood. Due to the diminishing of vehicle/pedestrian routing, parents feel safer to allow their children to play in the area. The space is divided by parks and open plains of grass. Direct routes that run through such spaces allow for quick passage and avoidance, if necessary.

I believe that, within itself, Accordia has established a standard of living, and a standard for design and aesthetics. It is definitely distinctive from the other usual housing development from the surrounding context of Cambridge. It is the first ever housing project that has won the Sterling Prize, therefore, it has built up an amazing identity for itself. As the years pass by, it must continue to live up to the expectations, in as many ways as possible.
